A postcard from Australia 2023

No worries,
just a waterfall.

Come along

Empress Canyon, Blue Mountains · 20 Nov 2023

Down the canyon

One day, one canyon, a whole lot of water. We walked in through the rainforest, waded a slot lined with ferns, roped down Empress Falls and jumped into the pool at the bottom. Then we climbed out to see the whole valley from the top.

A few moments in motion.

16 seconds · Silent film

Into the slot

Helmets on, dry bags up, and a creek the color of strong tea. Nobody stayed dry for long, and nobody minded.

Tina takes the falls

Tina on the rope, with the waterfall pouring down beside her and the pool waiting at the bottom.

23 seconds · Silent film

Steve’s view from the rope

The same waterfall from Steve’s chest: one look over the lip into the gorge, then a long, wet way down.

22 seconds · Silent film

Then everybody jumps

A rock ledge, a deep pool and a waterfall for company. Once one person went, everyone went.
